VASER Liposculpting and Brazilian Butt Lifts

What is the best type of buttock augmentation? The broad consensus among plastic surgeons is that the fat-transfer technique referred to as the Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is by far the best method.

So, what is the best type of BBL? VASER technology for fat transfer butt lifts can make for more beautiful outcomes, more rapid recovery times, and less post-operative discomfort – and those are differences Dr. Steven Varkony’s patients appreciate.

Why Do Women Get BBLs?

Buttock augmentation has been used for many decades to bring shape to buttocks that patients may feel are overly small, flat, sagging,  or simply lacking shape. It is also often undergone by women who may feel that age has taken its toll on the shapeliness of their posterior, causing it to become flatter and saggy.

At first, butt augmentations were primarily done with silicone implants like the ones used in breast augmentation. In recent years, however, the fat-transfer technique used in the procedure popularly known as the Brazilian butt lift has become the standard.

Why is that? In terms of aesthetics, the patient’s own body fat is obviously far more easily shaped than a manufactured implant, which means that plastic surgeons can sculpt a posterior that is more flattering and natural-looking because it is sculpted to suit the figure of the patient. Since it is made from real body fat, it also feels more natural. You can read more about BBLs on our Brazilian butt lift page.

Is a Butt Lift with VASER Liposuction the Best Type of BBL?

We think so! On top of the benefits of standard fat-transfer butt lifts, performing them with VASER provides Dr. Varkony with the flexibility he needs to do his absolute best work. It also reduces recovery time and post-operative discomfort. Most importantly, it gives the patient a more even, thorough, and beautiful abdomen, waist, and hips.

What is VASER Technology? Is it Related to Laser Liposuction?

No. VASER technology and laser liposuction might rhyme but they are completely different techniques. While lasers employ heat generated by highly focused light, VASER is an acronym for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. What that means is that, instead of using heat generated by intensely focused light to break up fat cells as lasers do, VASER uses sound waves to break up the fat attachments which, at lower settings, while removing the fat, leaves fat cells intact. It has many benefits including greater precision and reduced blood loss. To learn about this leading-edge technique in general, visit our VASER Liposculpiting page.

Why is VASER Better than Other Liposuction Techniques for a BBL?

Generally speaking, VASER liposuction can be performed with far greater precision and efficiency; it’s proven to be a safe and effective tool for highly skilled plastic surgeons. For BBL patients, however, it has additional advantages that require some explaining.

When a VASER device is used at a low setting, it breaks up fat cell attachments much more gently than other techniques, leaving the fat cells viable for transfer to other areas of the body, such as the buttocks. VASER at lower power settings does not destroy the cells. It also leaves blood vessels and nerves intact, which leads to faster healing and less bruising.

Is VASER liposuction useful for BBL revision procedures?

Yes. VASER technology set at a higher setting can also be extremely helpful for patients who want to fix issues with already existing procedures ranging from BBLs to tummy tucks. At a higher setting, VASER will break up scarring and fibrosis, leading to a more even contour and a corrected result.

For example, when liposuction is performed too close to the skin or too much fat is taken from a particular area, the result can be waviness, contour defects, and depressions, as well as asymmetrical areas in one or both buttocks. VASER Technology provides Dr. Varkony with the tool he needs to correct such issues as pitting and scarring under the skin.

Is it Possible to Have Too Little Fat for a BBL or BBL Revision?

Unfortunately, yes. If previous plastic surgeons have removed essentially all pockets of fat, there may be insufficient material for Dr. Varkony to work with. However, in the majority of cases, enough fat can be found.

If prospective patients are interested in the procedure but uncertain whether or not they are a candidate, the best thing to do is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Varkony to go over the available options.
