A mommy makeover addresses a woman’s post-pregnancy body issues in a single-session surgery. It typically combines two or more of the following;
Tummy Tuck/Mini Tummy Tuck.
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is typically the centerpiece of a mommy makeover. It addresses the loose skin and residual fat that often follow one or more childbirths and the large weight losses that come with them. The procedure tightens abdominal muscles that can often become separated (recti diastasis) after one or more childbirths and removes excess skin and fat that are often resistant to any amount of dieting and exercise. If all the excess skin is below the belly button, a mini tummy tuck is usually sufficient.
Breast Augmentation.
The increases in breast size during pregnancy and lactation and the decrease in size afterward can leave breasts saggy and smaller. Breast augmentation surgery using a cohesive silicone gel (“gummy bear”) or saline implant can sometimes solve these frequent mommy makeover issues by enlarging the breasts. In some cases, however, it may be best to combine the procedure with a breast lift to lift the nipple in order to create a more perky, youthful breast…
Breast Lift.
When the breast is saggy and flat, with a droopy areola and nipple, a breast lift (mastopexy), can remove excess skin, restore a pyramidal shape, and lift the areola and nipple into a more youthful, perky position. If there is a loss of volume, placing a small implant at the time of the breast lift can restore upper quadrant fullness and add balance and harmony to the newly lifted breasts. Whether or not breast augmentation is also desired, mastopexy is very popular and continues to satisfy patients.*
Liposuction.
This very popular technique for removing stubborn pockets of fat is typically employed during tummy tucks but its use doesn’t have to end there. Since many moms deal with extra fat in places other than the abdomen, mommy makeover liposuction can address other problem areas such as “love handles” on the hips and waist. Patients who want comprehensive body contouring with their mommy makeovers may want to explore VASER liposculpting with Dr. Varkony.
