Diet and exercise are important, but most people can’t lose weight in certain areas no matter how hard they try. These areas include the neck, abdomen, hips, waist, arms, inner and outer thighs in women and the neck, abdomen and waist in men. When we lose weight, we lose it all over the body. Consequently, we must lose a tremendous amount of weight in order to lose it in the areas we need to lose it the most. People who are at their ideal weight or those who are overweight by a few pounds can’t afford to lose a lot of weight (even if they could!).

Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover targets multiple areas of the body and therefore multiple procedures are done at the same time, including liposculpting, breast surgery and tummy tuck.
Liposculpting is used to remove stubborn localized fat deposits and sculpt certain areas of the body.
Breast surgery can give you back the volume that you lost in your breasts after breast-feeding or lift your breasts to correct the sag that you acquired after your pregnancy.
Tummy tucks and mini-tummy tucks, with or without PAL liposculpting can tighten and firm your loose abdominal skin and muscles.
What are my breast implant options?
Choosing a breast implant is an individual process. At The Plastic Surgery Center, we offer both saline and silicone implants to our patients. Before choosing one over the other, it is good to know the benefits of both so that you can make your decision based on the look and feel that you want.
Silicone breast implants come pre-filled and are implanted in the body that way. They are filled with a thick, cohesive but flexible silicone gel. Although more expensive than saline, many women prefer silicone implants, insisting that they look and feel more natural.
Saline breast implants are filled with salt water. The implant is placed empty and then filled to the proper size when in place in the body. One benefit of saline breast implants is that they require a smaller incision than silicone implants, which means a smaller scar. They generally feel slightly firmer than silicone implants, and they cost significantly less.
What type of liposuction is performed?
Dr. Varkony offers the latest techniques in tumescent, ultrasonic and PAL power-assisted liposculpting, including small cannulas (suction tubes), minimal bruising and small, hidden incisions.
If I gain weight will the fat come back?
No. Since we don’t make more fat cells as adults, whatever is removed is permanently gone. If you have liposuction or liposculpting and gain a lot of weight, some fat will go back to the operated areas but most of it will be stored as fat in other areas of the body.
How long should I wait to have a mommy makeover after giving birth?
Typically, it’s advised to wait a minimum of 6 months after giving birth before undergoing a mommy makeover. Each patient will require medical clearance from their doctor prior to surgery.
If you plan on having more children, you should wait until after the last child to have a mommy makeover.
What kind of anesthesia will be used?
For almost all cases, general anesthesia will be used, which means you will completely asleep and pain-free during the entire case.
Where does the surgery take place?
Procedures are done in our fully certified out-patient surgical, along with board-certified anesthesiologists.
Is there pain or discomfort after surgery?
There will be some discomfort after surgery, regardless of pain medication or pain tolerance. The first week is generally the hardest.
What is the recovery time?
All procedures are done on an out-patient basis. You can have surgery in the morning and be back home or in your hotel room in the afternoon. An overnight stay in a post-operative nursing facility or a private nurse in your home or hotel room for the first day can be arranged if desired.
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure(s) could take between 2 and 4 hours depending on the plan Dr. Steven Varkony and the patient have agreed upon.
Will I need someone caring for me after the procedure?
One should generally have someone with them the first day or so following any surgery.
