Am I a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck or Mini Tummy Tuck?

The ideal candidates for a tummy tuck are those who are close to their ideal body weight, in good general health and lead a healthy lifestyle. Men who are seeking this procedure often find that working out and dieting are not providing the results they desire. Men who have experienced significant weight loss might also notice loose hanging skin that does not improve with exercise and diet.

What is the difference between a Full Tummy Tuck and a Mini Tummy Tuck?
A full tummy tuck is usually recommended for individuals with significant amounts of loose hanging skin and fat, above and below the belly button. The abdominal muscles, which have been stretched apart, are brought back together to tighten the abdomen. A mini tummy tuck is a less invasive version of a full tummy tuck. It involves tightening of the abdominal muscles below the bell button. A mini tummy tuck does not require a new incision for the belly button. The incision is much smaller than for a full tummy tuck.
If I gain weight, will my skin become loose again?
Yes. The larger the weight gain, the more the skin and underlying tissues are stretched. When you lose the weight again, the tummy tuck results may not look as great as they did. Therefore, it is ideal to maintain a stable weight after your procedure.
Is a Tummy Tuck a treatment for weight loss?

No, a tummy tuck is not a treatment for weight loss. You will lose a minimal amount of weight from the procedure.

What is the difference between Tummy Tuck and Abdominal Liposuction?

A tummy tuck addresses the excess skin and loose muscle and to a lesser extent, excess fat. Liposuction only addresses the excess fat. Sometimes a patient only needs liposuction to achieve a rewarding result. Other patients will have an improved appearance with either liposuction or a tummy tuck. The choice is based on the goals and expectations of the patient.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure could take between 2 to 4 hours depending on the plan Dr. Varkony and the patient have agreed upon.

What is the cost of a Tummy Tuck?

The cost for a tummy tuck or a mini tummy tuck varies from person to person, as no two people are the same. Dr. Varkony and his patient care coordinator will be able to provide you with a quote following your complimentary consultation.

What is the recovery time and when will I be able to return to work?

Following the tummy tuck procedure, you will be covered with dressings or a compression garment, only to be removed when instructed. This assists in the reduction of swelling.

You may be required to have drainage tubes to remove excess fluid underneath the skin. Dr. Varkony will give you specific instructions on how to care for them, and when they will be removed. They are typically in place for about 7-10 days.

Stay away from anti-inflammatory medications and alcohol following your surgery since these increase bruising. Dr. Steven Varkony will advise you as when it will be able to start taking them again.

Recovery varies from patient to patient. One can expect to return to work approximately 1-2 weeks after surgery, depending on the occupation. Activity level is gradually increased over the first several weeks and full activity can usually be resumed between 6 to 8 weeks. You will be prescribed pain and/or anti-nausea medication to keep you as comfortable as possible while healing.

Is there pain or discomfort after surgery?

There will be some pain and discomfort after a tummy tuck.  However, the dressing or abdominal binder and good pain medications will assist in alleviating some or most of the pain.

Will I need someone caring for me after the procedure?

Yes. It is very important to have a family member, friend, or medical professional care for you during the first few days following your procedure.

Will I need to stay overnight after the procedure?

All procedures are done on an out-patient basis, meaning you can have surgery in the morning and be back home or in your hotel room in the afternoon. An overnight stay in a post-operative nursing facility or a private nurse in your home or hotel room for the first day can be arranged, if desired.

Where does the surgery take place?

Procedures are done in our fully certified out-patient surgical center, along with board-certified anesthesiologists, and certified registered nurses.

What kind of anesthesia will be used?

For almost all cases, general anesthesia will be used, which means you will be completely asleep and pain-free during the entire case. Some other patients, having shorter procedures, can have lighter sedation. However, everyone will be completely comfortable during the procedure.
